Women in Federal Law Enforcement (WIFLE) Event Wrap- Up

Women in Federal Law Enforcement (WIFLE) held is 18th annual leadership training in Houston, TX, July 31-August 3, 2017.  This year’s keynote leadership speaker was Commander Sunia L. Williams, NASA Astronaut (Captain, U.S. Navy).  Commander Williams spoke on the differences in leading on the ground as opposed to leading in space.  Not only was there great distance but things one takes for granted when dealing with people day to day suddenly changes in space and the challenges involved with making those decisions.  The highpoint of this session came after as Commander Williams signed autographs and took pictures with all the attendees.

WIFLE also invited the National Youth Representative from the National Law Enforcement Explorers as well as ten young ladies who are Houston Police Department Program to attend the entire conference as regular attendees.  While these young ladies had met with and worked along side female law enforcement officers, they had never been in a location, where they got to meet and share the experiences of hundreds of women who are successfully navigating demanding careers.

Attendees sat through sessions such as the Pulse Nightclub Shooting in Orlando, which explored the response by local, state and federal law enforcement to this tragic event. It detailed the tactical response and the decisions that had to be made to save the surviving victims and learned how the City of Orlando came together to heal and rebound from this tragic event.

Our WIFLE Executive Leadership Institute (WELI) in partnership with Booz Allen Hamilton conducted a special training session entitled “Breaking Conventional Rules of Leadership”.  Dr. Aman Gohal, and Mina Shim, provided several frameworks on how women can break conventional rules that shrink their leadership, voice and power in the workplace. The old rules include: being overly focused on others, seeking approval, being modest, working harder, playing it safe and all-or-nothing thinking. The new rules are taking center stage, proceeding until apprehended, projecting personal power/authority, being politically savvy, and playing to win.

Our Featured speaker was
Ms. Janine Driver, CEO of the Body Language Institute whose presentation  “You Say More Than You Think You Do”
How Body Language and Word Choices Reveal More Than You Think & How it’s Making You Work Harder Than You Need To! – Without You Knowing It! closed out our training. Janine’s special training session is designed to help people better understand themselves, the impact of their non-verbal and verbal communication on others, and how to read others hidden emotions and build better relationships through the use of her cutting-edge NEW Body Language communication secrets. Learning these cues make law enforcement officers more efficient and safer professionally. Ms. Driver provided important information about influencing others, establishing rapport, detecting deception, investigating fraud, and negotiating a raise or promotion.

Look for us next year in Rancho Mirage, CA, June 25-28, 2018.
